Attwood|Gregg is a boutique law firm providing exceptional litigation and advice and counsel services for defendants and plaintiffs in California and other states. Led by partners Mark Attwood and Jess Gregg, A|G’s practice is focused on high-profile, complex cases including employment, contract, class-action, ERISA, and general business litigation in federal and California state court. Our attorneys are experienced litigators and employment law advisors on workplace legal issues. When it comes to employment matters, A|G represents clients ranging from single plaintiffs to Fortune 500 corporations. Mark Attwood

Partner

Mark Attwood is an experienced attorney on multiple levels. He was a Principal of a national and premier AmLaw 100 employment law firm for more than 25 years. He has litigated cases for more than 35 years as a determined advocate for his clients. This includes matters involving all varieties of discrimination, harassment, personal injury, wage and hour, disability, ERISA and race. He provides seasoned employment law advice and counsel to a wide variety of clients ranging from Fortune 500 public companies, and privately held companies to individual executives, celebrities, non-profit institutions, and educational institutions. His experience spans the manufacturing, retail, service, hospitality, law firm, construction, education, food, and entertainment fields and industries.  

 

Mark is particularly experienced with high-level executive matters including employment agreements and terminations. He understands the complex issues and conflicts that can arise at the corporate board and executive levels. He has served as the Board Chair of three separate organizations. He brings this knowledge base, practicality, and background to his practice. Mark consistently is recognized among his peers as a Super Lawyer® and a Best Lawyer®.

Jess Gregg

Partner

Jess Gregg is an experienced trial attorney, having litigated a wide variety of civil cases including personal injury, employment, ERISA, art and entertainment, business litigation, intellectual property, class actions, and international law; representing plaintiffs and defendants. Prior to forming A|G, Jess was a Principal of a national and premier AmLaw 100 employment law firm. She litigates all varieties of employment law matters, including discrimination, harassment, personal injury, disability, ERISA, and wage and hour, including wage and hour class action defense. Jess has a unique ability to understand her clients’ circumstances, to get to the heart of their cases and to represent them in a decisive manner. 

 

Jess is at home in the courtroom. She is uncommonly creative. Jess provides innovative employment law advice and counsel to her clients, who span the retail, manufacturing, entertainment, art, celebrity, insurance, construction, and technology fields. She is solution oriented, and results driven. She is personable and effective. Jess is recognized as a Super Lawyer® by her peers.

Joel Kelly

Partner

Joel Kelly has an accomplished and distinguished record throughout his 40-year career employment law career as an expert in complex employment litigation, as a veteran trial lawyer, and as a skilled legal advisor on a variety of workplace issues. He is experienced in representing employers in multiple industries, including clients in retail, restaurants, hospitality, entertainment, and manufacturing. Prior to joining A|G, Joel was a Principal of a national and premier AmLaw 100 employment firm for 30 years where he emphasized a preventative approach to avoiding workplace disputes. 

 

Having prevailed in several cases through the state and federal appellate courts, Joel is responsible for significant legal precedent under California state wage and hour law, and he is widely recognized as an authority in the area. Joel’s additional expertise includes counseling and litigation on all phases of the employment relationship including employee discipline and termination, discrimination and harassment, class, collective and representative actions, PAGA, whistle-blowing, and unfair competition and protection of trade secrets. He has a unique ability to distill complex issues to get to the heart of the matter in a way that benefits his clients. Based on his years of experience and pragmatic demeanor, Joel has earned respect among his colleagues on both sides of the practice, who often turned to him to strategize on their cases.

 

In addition to his litigation skills, Joel serves as a mediator. With his deep understanding of employment law and his unique approach to resolving workplace disputes, Joel provides a skilled dispute resolution process as an alternative to the time, expense, and stress of litigation, including mediation in the area of complex wage and hour litigation. In his role as mediator, Joel is often able to provide the parties with creative and meaningful solutions to resolve their disputes. 

 

Joel is a regular CLE instructor on employment law topics. He has consistently earned the recognition of his peers as a Super Lawyer® and Best Lawyer®.

Zoe Tremayne

Partner

Zoe Tremayne is an experienced attorney having litigated a large range of civil cases representing plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts around the country. She is a meticulous and effective advocate for her clients. Zoe’s areas of expertise include employment, business litigation, false claims act, breach of contract, defamation and false light, class actions, appellate litigation, and intellectual property, including trade dress, trademark, copyright, trade secrets, cease and desist issues, and the right to publicity. Zoe uses this knowledge to provide comprehensive employment law advice and counsel to her clients. Zoe also serves as the Firm’s Litigation Manager.

Before joining A|G, Zoe was an attorney at a national and premier AmLaw 100 employment law firm, and prior to that position, practiced at a boutique high-stakes litigation firm.

Jim Barnett

Associate Attorney

Jim Barnett is a litigation attorney whose practice focuses on defending employers against complex class actions, federal and state wage and hour claims, equal employment opportunity claims involving Title VII and the Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act claims, ERISA breach of fiduciary duty claims, and breach of contract claims related to wrongful termination and non-compete disputes.

Jim has represented employers in a wide variety of workplace legal matters, including providing preventive advice and counseling. He has considerable experience practicing employment law in federal and state courts, arbitration tribunals, and before administrative agencies such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Department of Labor. He has successfully litigated multiple sensitive, “bet-the-company” employment claims for high-profile employers in the commercial, entertainment, hospitality, and retail industries. Jim has defended employers, fiduciaries, plan sponsors, third-party administrators, and other ERISA-covered entities in complex class actions and individual plaintiff matters, including defined contribution plan “fee” class action litigation and complex claims for breach of fiduciary duties. Prior to joining A|G, Jim was an associate at two national and premier AmLaw 100 law firms.

Before attending law school, Jim served his country for eight years as an officer in the United States Air Force, which included a combat tour in Afghanistan. During this time, he was a Special Agent in the highly selective Air Force Office of Special Investigations. As a former Air Force Captain and criminal investigator, Jim brings the benefit of his unique skills, discipline, experience and dedication in overseeing complex criminal and counterintelligence investigations to his legal practice.

Luba Lerner

Associate Attorney

Luba Lerner is an attorney experienced employment lawyer and litigator. Luba’s approach to matters is thoughtful, strategic, and focused on zealous advocacy for her clients. Luba’s work includes litigating in state and federal courts, arbitrations, providing advice and counsel, and drafting appellate briefs. Notably, Luba has also been successful at the appellate level, having prevailed in a matter resulting in a notable published wage and hour/PAGA opinion by the California Court of Appeal.

Luba represents employers and employees in all types of employment litigation, including wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, unfair competition, executive compensation, breach of contract, pay equity claims, wage and hour class actions, and more. Luba has extensive experience representing both employers and employees in class and PAGA representative actions. She has represented employers in the fitness, agriculture, manufacturing, distribution, food, retail, education, hospitality and entertainment industries. Luba brings her litigation experience and business knowledge to the regular employment law advice and counsel she provides to her clients.

Prior to joining A|G, Luba represented employers and management in high-stakes litigation at an international Vault top 50 law firm and a national employment-focused AmLaw 100 law firm. Additionally, prior to her employment defense work, Luba represented employees in class actions, representative PAGA actions, and individual actions at a highly respected employment boutique law firm.
